Mid Wales Forest Church

For many the spiritual journey is most easily followed in nature; along the shore, through the forest, over the mountain. Mid Wales Forest Church is a new kind of experiential community group, open to anyone exploring that journey. Many people can describe transcendent moments in nature where they feel deeply connected to something bigger than themselves and Forest Church is a way to explore that connection within community; a new way of being Church.

We meet outside somewhere in mid Wales on the third Sunday of every month. You’ll need to contact group facilitator .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for specific details of each event.

What we actually do and where we meet differs from month to month with three types of gathering: rituals, walks and workshops. Close to the solstices and equinoxes we meet for a shared celebration and meal. For another four months we meet simply to walk or make a journey or pilgrimage with a simple liturgy or prayer pattern. And for the remaining four months we undertake a more structured activity ranging from working on a forest garden to exploring a meditation exercise or nature connection activity. We never structure more than 50% of our time to allow us room to respond to what is happening around us; to take time to pause and be present with creation.

Many of us are conscious of a need for a deep spiritual and ecological shift and are experiencing that in our own lives. We hope for a move towards a regenerative participation with nature that itself is groaning for freedom from decay. Throughout the ages people have walked this path within the Christ tradition and have found a meaningful expression of their spirituality, finding inspiration and structure through the rhythms of the seasons, the characteristics of plants and animals and the sacredness of place – along with the wisdom of the scriptures and the pattern of prayers.

If you’re interested in coming to join us use the email link below for more details and bring with you an attitude of experimentation, playfulness and openness and help shape the direction this new group takes.

Area of activities within mid Wales: In the north, a line from Barmouth – Dolgellau – Welshpool, down the boarder to a line from Kington – Buith Wells – Aberaeron in the south.
